Data privacy is important. Surveillance capitalism has invaded our lives, with every app on our phones collecting all kinds of data about us. Some of this data is used to fuel addictive recommendation algorithms, some is packaged for training AI models, and some is sold for profit. These platforms are using our own assets against us. Our data and privacy should be in our own hands, not exploited by these platforms.

Unfortunately, due to the growth of these platforms, we’ve grown accustomed to using sites like Instagram or Amazon, making it unrealistic to simply abandon them for the sake of data privacy, which may not feel immediately relevant to our daily lives. However, even though we haven’t yet found an ideal solution, we are still searching for a way to allow users to regain control over their data and experience its benefits rather than its harm.

We hope to employ decentralized methods to help users reclaim their data ownership. This application shouldn’t just be limited to the Web3 community—it should be a tool that everyone can use to benefit from. We’ve seen the efforts of others before us, like data2.cash, and recognize the challenges of this path. Although the field lacks a proven business model, we’re committed to being among the first to explore it.

Cookrypt is a project by P-Lab, currently in the demo validation stage. While our main focus remains on Punky, we plan to dedicate ourselves to Cookrypt’s development in the first half of next year.

We aim to create a product that collects user activity data on the client side, processes it into scalable tags using AI, and then uploads it to a decentralized advertising platform through zero-knowledge proof, ensuring user privacy. This platform can then use tokens to pay users directly to view relevant ads, providing more targeted ad exposure. In this process, as a matchmaking platform, we empower users to make better use of their data, return control of data processing to them, and simultaneously offer advertisers clearer user profiles and more accurate platform exposure.
